Ridges and hills are common occurrences in the region which belong to the Sahyadri hill range, to the east and Goa state to the west. The main rivers flowing across the taluka are the Terekhol, the Kalana and Tilari .These rivers flow along the east- west direction and form southern border of the taluka ,
The place is located at an altitude of 29 m meters in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. Near Sawantwadi , located 28 kms from THIVIM railwaystation is the closest railway station of the place whereas Dabolim, Goa is the airport, located at a distance of 76 kms and 113 kms from Oros , the District capital.
From THIVIM railwaystation take a BUS to get to bus stop DODAMARG. From sawantwadi Terminus, there are Kadamba transport buses for Dodamarg and therafter regular buses ply on the route to Dodamarg .
As soon as the monsoon starts, the place gets much relief from the scorching heat of the summer. Though in Dodamarg, Monsoons start in June and end in September the place gets heavy rainfall throughout the month of May. It is the best time to visit Dodamarg for those who love monsoon season.
Pargad was a basically a fort build by Shivaji maharaj around 1674, believed to be maintained to overlook the activities of the Portuguese in Goa. The height is 738 meters from sea level. First killedar of this fort was Rayaji Malusare, son of Tanaji Malusare. In 1689 Aurangzebs son Sahajada Muaajam and Khavas Khan tried to conquer this fort, but the brave soldiers with their guerrilla warfare tactis defeted the Mughals.
To reach Mangeli is not difficult at all; the direction boards alongside roads will guide you to a village named Virdi. From Virdi, one has to climb the steep hill and the sharp twisted roads require a certain amount of riding skills. There are several scenic spots on the way, where one can make a short halts. The splendid view amidst thick fog can make a fantastic backdrop for pictures.
Located at 3 - 4 kms. from Amboli the starting point of Hiranyakeshi river is a beautiful picnic spot. There is a Shankar and Devi temple at the Starting point and also a 'Kunda' or water tank. You have to walk a small distance to go up to the temple. The area around the temple is very peaceful and you can hear birds chirping away in the surrounding greens.
